Innovasic’s FIDO1100 Microcontroller Designed for Deterministic Processing

June 25, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Electronic components distributor Digi-Key (www.digikey.com) has announced the addition of Innovasic’s (www.innovasic.com) FIDO1100 in its existing product offerings.

The first product from Innovasic’s flexible input deterministic output (FIDO) family of real time communication controllers — the FIDO1100 — is specifically designed from the ground up for deterministic processing, while its architecture has been uniquely optimized to solve memory bottlenecks. This makes critical timing parameters such as interrupt latency and context switching precisely predictable for real-time tasks.

In addition, the 32-bit real-time communication controller also integrates the Universal I/O Controller (UIC), which can be configured to support several communication protocols across multiple platforms. This effectively eliminates the need for designers to search for product matrices to identify the set of peripherals that closely match the needs of the system interface.

Aside from offering comprehensive real-time code debug capabilities, the Software Profiling and Integrated Debug EnviRonment (SPIDER), which is the debug tool of FIDO, also provides a unique and powerful functionality that speeds up time-to-market while reducing development cost.

Meanwhile, Innovasic Semiconductor’s RapID Platform for Industrial Ethernet takes the risk out of integrating an Industrial Ethernet interface into a product. Without changing the hardware design, the RapID Platform alters the firmware using the Innovasic FIDO1100R Communication Controller, which is a single chip that supports Profinet, EtherNet/IP and TCP/IP. Innovasic revealed that a single circuit board design also allows a product to support Profinet, EtherNet/IP and TCP/IP.
