New Amphenol Connectors provide more power and durability

February 15, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Amphenol Aerospace (www.amphenol-aerospace.com), a world leader in interconnect system, has introduced a series of micro-miniature connectors that deliver consistent coupling and more power throughput by integrating more electrical connections. With shell sizes ranging between five and 23, the compact, high-density 2M Series is 52 percent smaller and 72 percent lighter compared to the standard MIL-DTL-38999 connectors.

The new connectors are intermountable and intermateable with existing high-density micro-miniature connectors commonly used in defense and aerospace applications. Designed for durability, the all-new 2M Series maximizes SWaP (size, weight and power) in various high-reliability, harsh environments.

In addition, the lightweight 2M Series employs advanced bonding techniques to enhance adhesion properties while reducing the risk of fod (foreign object debris).

Its four coupling styles seamlessly combine over 40 years of the company’s design expertise to provide consistent coupling torque on the connectors, enabling it to withstand up to 300 g’s of shock and 37 g’s of random vibration.

The new connects are available in Durmalon aluminum/nickel-PTFE plating. They are also offered in other common platings, such as non-conductive aluminum/black anodize, stainless steel/passivated, aluminum/electroless nickel as well as aluminum/zinc-nickel with olive drab or black chromate.

The micro-miniature connectors can also be internally filtered for conducted and radiated EMI to optimize system efficiency while reducing overall system weight, size and components.

The company also offers a full line of complementary accessories for the new connectors, which include EMI and environmental back shells, protection caps and strain relief, hex nuts, flange gaskets, heat shrink boots and O-rings.
