New Low-Voltage, Right-Angle Brushless DC Gearmotors from Bodine

December 10, 2013 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Bodine Electric Company has added a new selection of high-performance right-angle INTEGRAmotor™ gearmotors to its product line. The new type 34B4/FV-5N gearmotors combine Bodine’s 34B brushless DC motor with a compact and cost competitive right-angle gearhead, a built-in PWM speed control, and an optical encoder. Together, they create a high-performance drive package that radically simplifies design, wiring, and assembly.

The 24 VDC 34B/FV-5N gearmotors are ideal for a wide range of low-voltage applications in medical equipment, packaging machines, conveyor systems, printing equipment, and factory automation. The gearmotors are also suitable for portable or remote applications where connection to an AC line is not possible. The brushless DC motor is virtually maintenance-free, eliminates brush wear, brush maintenance and carbon dust.

Specifications
The new 34B/FV-5N gearmotors provide 1/4 hp (187 watts) and up to 104 lb-in. (12 Nm) continuous torque. They are stocked in gear ratios ranging from 5:1 to 40:1 and their rated output speeds are from 63 to 500 RPM. These new INTEGRAmotors operate from a regulated 24 VDC power supply. Output speed is controlled via a digital Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) interface. The integrated control accepts inputs from an external motion controller or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). An enclosed 1024 PPR, 2 channel, optical encoder provides closed loop feedback to the external controller. The 34B/FV-5N INTEGRAmotors and gearmotors are rated IP-44. Special order versions of these new INTEGRAmotor gearmotors can also be supplied with food-grade gearhead lubricants or with hollow shaft gearheads.
