On gas- and diesel-powered equipment, PTO clutch brakes are the dominant solution for controlling motion and reliably transmitting torque to the deck blades. For applications not requiring a brake, such as a fan, there are general purpose clutches to provide push-button on/off control. Soft start controllers provide smooth clutch engagement that offers several advantages including longer belt life, less jolt, better engine performance during cold weather starts, and reduced stress on other components. For battery powered mowers, the electric motor wheel drives require a parking brake for safety.
