Ogura’s new product line addition – mechanical clutches

May 9, 2017 By Mike Santora Leave a Comment

Ogura-Mechanical-Industrial-clutchesOgura Industrial has announced a new addition to its product line. Although this product is not new to Ogura, it is new to North America. The mechanical clutch series is finding new opportunities for machinery manufacturers in North America because of some of its unique features.

The mechanical clutches are a multiple disc design that are actuated via an integral cam and lever. Just a small movement on the control ring allows for the generation of significant torque in a small space. The torque ranges from approximately 18 to 3,500 lb ft with diameters ranging from 3 to around 8.5-in.

The units are made to run dry or in an oil bath. Both wet and dry units have low drag torque. Special release springs enable quick disengagement. Thanks to a large lever ratio and roller design, activation force is small versus load force and there is no thrust load while the unit is engaged or disengaged. Torque is easily adjustable via adjusting nuts and friction discs in both units are serviceable.

Ogura has been producing clutches and brakes since 1938. Over that time, we have developed over 5,000 different models of clutches and brakes. Although Ogura primarily produces electromagnetic clutches and brakes, they also produce magnet particle, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and a variety of specialty products. Ogura is the world’s largest manufacturer of electromagnetic clutches and brakes. Current manufacturing capacity is over 30 million units per year. To provide localized support, they have manufacturing plants spread throughout the world in Asia, The Americas, and Europe. All manufacturing facilities are ISO recognized and conform to the ISO 9001;2008, ISO 140001, and ISO/TS 16949.
