Pittman, a division of AMETEK Precision Motion Control (www.ametektip.com), has announced that its Pittman 8540 Series brush-commutated DC motors has been designed to deliver high performance in a compact package.
Using the newest advancements in manufacturing and materials technology, the 8540 Series provide significant improvement compared to the company’s similar sized, previous generation motors, making it perfect for high-tech applications in lab instrumentation, medical devices, precision automation machinery and data storage.
Measuring 1.18 inches (30 mm) in diameter, the 8540 Series are available in three different lengths — 2.114 inches (53.69 mm), 2.585 inches (65.66 mm) and 3.057 inches (77.65 mm). It provides double the torque rating offered by Pittman’s older generation motors.
The new motors are offered in eight standard windings that range between 9.55V and 48V. The company also offers customised windings to optimise the performance of a specific application.
The motors have been fitted with standard pre-loaded ball bearings to allow high speed, axial and radial shaft loading as well as higher temperatures. Equipped with a seven slot armature, the 8540 Series motors employs improved manufacturing techniques to enable it to deliver more balanced armatures that results to remarkably low vibration and audible noise characteristics. When operating at low speeds, the motors deliver low cogging, attributed to its optimised magnetic circuit design, making it suitable for position control in various servo applications.
