Pittman G30 planetary gearbox delivers durability, maximum torque density

June 14, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Pittman Motors (www.pittman-motors.com) has expanded its portfolio with the addition of a new planetary gearbox, which is specifically designed with durability and maximum torque density in mind.

Engineered to complement five different Pittman motor series, the G30A planetary gearboxes allow a wider range of speeds and output torque.

Using the optional mounting flange, the small gearbox features a mounting profile of 30.5 mm (1.20 inches) in diameter or 38.0 mm (1.50 inches) square. The length of the gearbox varies depending on the gear reduction and range from 33.7 mm (1.33 inches) to 51.2 mm (2.02 inches). Allowing an output load of up to 2.47 Nm (350 oz-in) to 8.83 Nm (1250 oz-in), the G30A is available in four standard reduction ratios that range between 4:1 and 1296:1.

The planetary gearbox is engineered to meet even the most challenging demands of various applications. It is equipped with sintered steel planet gears to promote low audible noise and high torque capacity while keeping a compact design. Its single piece carrier plates with sun gear and integral gear posts can be arrange to achieve varying reduction ratios. Gearbox output is delivered through a sintered metal output bearing and a 416 stainless steel shaft. For high radial loads, the company also offers optional ball bearings.

The G30A planetary gearbox perfectly complements several Pittman brush and brushless DC motors, such as Pittman 1300, 8220, 8690, 8540 and 9230 Series. Combining the G30A with the latest motor materials as well as manufacturing technology such as silicon lamination steel, high energy neodymium magnets and advanced winding techniques maximize slot fill and create a high efficiency system ideally suited for high-tech motion applications.
