Rockwell Automation Inc. announced the CompactLogix 5390 controller, a new addition to the Integrated Architecture controller family. The controller is designed for machine builders and manufacturers that need control, safety, security, data and networking functions in automation systems.
Industrial operations are using more connected devices and generating more data, increasing demands on control systems. Applications may require higher processing capacity, integrated safety functions, cybersecurity features and access to operational data. Implementing these functions can increase system complexity and engineering requirements.
The CompactLogix 5390 controller extends the Logix platform with integrated cybersecurity, safety functions and control performance. Its security capabilities are aligned with IEC 62443-4-2 and support preparation for requirements under the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
The controller supports local PointMax I/O for modular system architectures. Its footprint is 43% smaller than previous CompactLogix 5380 controllers, which can reduce panel space requirements and support common designs across machine families.
Integrated security and safety functions can help machine builders address system risks and compliance requirements without adding separate components to the machine architecture.
CompactLogix 5390 controllers are designed for use within the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture ecosystem. The controller integrates with PointMax I/O, Kinetix motion solutions, PowerFlex drives, Stratix networking technologies, FactoryTalk Design Studio software and other visualization products.
These integrations support engineering and commissioning workflows and provide a scalable control architecture for applications ranging from standalone machines to larger production systems.
