Schaffner introduces FN 5060 output filters for AC motors

May 19, 2016 By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

New FN5060 dv/dt filters from Schaffner protect AC motors from destructive effects of peak voltages and inrush currents, increasing service life and system reliability. This patented technology protects motors and adjacent equipment without capacitors or resistors, making them simple to install. They efficiently reduce high output dv/dt from IGBT motor drives and eliminate over-voltages caused by line reflections on motor cables, per IEC 60034-17/25.

Typical dv/dt reduction is a factor of 8 to 12. These filters are ideal for loads up to 760 VAC, 30 to 1,200 A and motors up to 60 Hz. They are ideal for motor drives with short to medium cable lengths, servo or torque motors, submersible or irrigation pumps, HVAC equipment including pumps, fans and compressors, elevators, hoists and cranes, process equipment and applications where sine wave filters are not suited (such as high dynamic operations).

Compact, resistor-less design saves floor mounting space and installs easily. With minimum power loss and low voltage drop, they maximize system efficiency. They are ideal for applications with frequent braking, danger of flash-over voltage, and motors running at high temperatures. These dv/dt filters are ideal for newer, high-frequency motor drives. These UL, CE, CSA and ENEC approved and RoHS compliant models are available through Schaffner channel partners throughout North America.
