Sendix absolute: EtherCAT conformance tested second generation encoders with minimum cycle time

March 12, 2015 By Mike Santora Leave a Comment

5868-5888-EtherCAT_conformance_tested[1]Kübler introduces the latest generation of the Sendix absolute EtherCAT encoders with the shortest bus cycle time for EtherCAT currently available, with a position update every 62.5 μs. The new EtherCAT encoders from Kübler are faster than other devices available on the market.

The shorter cycle time of the new Sendix absolute EtherCAT encoders allows the customer to build highly dynamic systems using the EtherCAT field bus technology. A wide temperature range from – 40 °C to + 85 °C, a high shock resistance reaching 2,500 m/s² and a high vibration resistance reaching 100 m/s² qualify the devices for applications even in the harshest environments. Integrated functionalities such as speed calculation and work area states make the implementation of these values on the control device superfluous. This provides the customers with more accurate results without having to implement even one line of code for these values on the control device.

The latest absolute Sendix EtherCAT encoders integrate the latest slave EtherCAT stack from Beckhoff with Version 5.01; they furthermore implement the latest CANopen profile 3.2.10 of February 18, 2011. The devices also offer dynamic mapping. Besides the scaled position, the raw data position can be mapped as a process variable. The sensor temperature in °C and the speed calculation with the sign are also mappable values. Four units are selectable for speed calculation: steps/sec, steps/100ms, steps/10ms and RPM. In addition, the gating time allows setting the time interval with which the speed value is to be interpolated. Two work area state registers allow the calculation of work area states and thus very process-close results. Another advantage appears during the download of parameters onto the encoder, which is subjected to a comprehensive plausibility check.

With Kübler’s new EtherCAT encoders, the customers opt for modern devices with mature technology, which will reliably meet the harsh requirements of the operating environment of such sensors – a decisive aspect for manufacturers of EtherCAT-based systems, for which high plant safety and availability are indispensable.
