AMETEK introduces new MAE HN Series hybrid stepper motors with fine positioning capability for microstep operation

(www.ametek.com) and a global leader in manufacturing electromechanical devices and electronic instruments, is proud to announce the release of the new MAE brand ”HN Series“ hybrid stepper motors that offer low detent torque to hold torque ratios promoting smooth operation and positioning capability, which is required for microstep operation. These new motors can give high-speed operation and accurate open-loop control suitable for a wider range of positioning applications.

The new Standard Size 34 “HN Series” hybrid steppers come in three models (“lengths 2.64 inches to 4.92 inches”) with step resolutions of 1.8º (“200 steps per rev”) in full step mode. Holding torques (“bipolar”) from 397 oz-inch to 1076 oz-inch can be reached, depending on the model.

The all MAE ”HN Series” motors incorporate neodymium magnets for superior acceleration and maximum torque; ground rotors and precision-honed stators for improved performance and tight air gap; four, six, or eight leads upon request; simple, rugged construction that promotes long service life and high reliability; and single or double-ended shaft extensions.

Its motor rotation can be ran counterclockwise or clockwise. The value-added customization options include gearboxes (“worm, spur, planetary, or right angle”) with low or standard backlash, brakes, encoders, and cabling, endbelt, and special shaft. The all MAE ‘HN Series’ motors from AMETEK are CE approved, made according to EN 60034-1: 1995-02 specifications, and is provided to meet IP55 splash and dust proof protection.

Compact Pittman DC Motors for Medical Device Apps

The expanded family of compact Pittman® slotless brushless DC motors has been engineered to outperform traditional motors in medical device applications requiring high efficiency and power with minimal heat, EMI, vibration, and noise. They are sized ideally to serve as high-performance power solutions in medical instruments, dental drills, and other handheld or small medical devices.

This family of small motors introduces a wide variety of power solutions for device applications with tight design envelopes. Motor diameters range from 0.375 in. / 9.53mm to 1.1 in. / 28mm and, depending on model, the motors can develop speeds up to 70,000 RPM under varying loads. Achievable continuous torque ratings approach 15 oz-in for the larger diameter series.

All models incorporate patented “Parallex” winding geometry promoting high efficiency by delivering more power using less energy. They additionally feature high-energy neodymium magnets for enhanced performance, robust construction with stainless steel housings for durability and corrosion-resistance, and precision and shielded ABEC bearings and balanced rotors contributing to smooth and quiet operation. Autoclavable versions are also available and capable of realizing extremely high cycle count.

Other standard features include 2- or 4-pole rotor, 3-phase stator, and Hall sensors. The motors can be customized with planetary gearboxes, optical encoders, and controllers, among other options, to tailor motor to application.

Slotted Brushless DC Servo Motors

Pittman® brand Series N2300 slotted brushless DC servo motors incorporate internal Hall sensor feedback for linear speed-torque characteristics, high starting torque, and variable speed control with appropriate control electronics. Their 6-slot lamination design contributes higher power, faster acceleration, consistent operation, and longer service life.

These brushless DC motors are ideal for a wide range of industry applications, including data storage, medical and biotech, semiconductor processing, automation, and others requiring high performance and reliability.

The motors (2.25 in. in diameter) are available in four standard stack lengths (1/2 in., 1 in., 1-1/2 in., and 2 in.) and integrate high-energy neodymium magnets for optimized performance. Depending on model, they can achieve peak torques up to 488 oz-in and speeds up to 7020 rpm at continuous torque for standard motors at rated voltages.

Other standard features for all versions include 3-phase stator, 4-pole rotor, and shielded ball bearings. Motors can additionally be equipped with planetary or spur gearboxes and optical encoders to satisfy particular application requirements.

Mounting configuration is consistent with NEMA 23 standards. Modular motor design facilitates customization with options including modified shafts, multiple windings, and brakes, among others.

Pittman 30mm Brush DC Motor

New Pittman® brand 30mm brush-commutated DC motors integrate high-energy bonded neodymium magnets for maximized power density and an optimized magnetic field profile and 7-slot straight armature to minimize cogging. The motors additionally feature a large diamond-turned commutator and copper-graphite brushes to deliver high current capacity and long-life operation.

These Series 8540 brush DC motors offering high torque-to-size performance provide ideal solutions to power data storage and medical equipment and business machines, among other industry applications.

The motors (1.181 in. diameter) are available in three standard lengths (2.080 in., 2.552 in., and 3.025 in.). They can achieve continuous torque up to 9.3 oz-in. and continuous power up to 43W, depending on model, and peak torque up to 78.7 oz-in and speeds up to 6440 rpm at continuous torque for standard motors at rated voltages.

Their balanced armature minimizes noise and vibration; large pre-loaded and heavy-duty ball bearings and supports promote high shaft-load capability; PC board brush card with integral surface mount components easily incorporates electrical noise suppression; and an integral connector header allows for custom leadwire configurations.

Pittman 8000 Series Brush DC Motors

Pittman® “Series 8000” brush-commutated DC motors feature a 7-slot skewed armature design to minimize magnetic cogging (or reluctance torque) and promote smooth and quiet operation. This family of motors offers high performance and reliability to power applications ranging from data storage and medical equipment to semiconductor processing and automation machinery, among others.

These motors are available in three lengths (2.070 in., 2.195 in., and 2.445 in.) and can achieve peak torques up to 16.8 oz-in and speeds up to 9020 RPM at continuous torque for standard motors at rated voltages. Speed, voltage, current, and torque characteristics can be varied to satisfy particular application needs.

Brushless DC Servo Motors

Despite their small size (1.3”/33mm diameter), these brushless DC motors can achieve peak torque from 10 oz-in to 57 oz-in and continuous torque from 3.5 oz-in to 8.5 oz-in, depending on model. Robust rotor construction allows rotational speeds up to 8000 RPM.

Standard features include three Hall sensors to provide rotor position feedback for electronic commutation; 3-phase stator with 6-slot silicon steel laminations; 4-pole rotor integrating high-energy neodymium ring magnets for optimized motor performance; and large ABEC ball bearings with high dynamic load ratings (up to 390 lbs.) and shielded to protect against contaminants.

Planetary Gearbox for Pittman DC Motors

The new G30A planetary gearbox introduced for Pittman® brand DC motors offers superior torque capacity, performance life, shaft loading capability, and low audible noise characteristics in a small, lightweight, and economical package. This gearbox is uniquely engineered to equip at least five different series of Pittman motors in various models to meet the widest range of gearmotor applications.

Their compact design suits smaller design envelopes. Standard diameters measure 1.200” (30.5mm) for round versions and 1.496” (38mm) for square types; gearbox lengths range from 0.895” (22.7mm) to 1.585” (40.3mm); and gearboxes weigh from 3.9 oz (110g) to 6.6 oz (186g), depending on model.

These powerful gearboxes can achieve reduction ratios to 46656:1 in 4:1, 5:1, and 6:1 multiples. The resulting combinations yield a total of 79 gearbox ratios that can be configured. Maximum load capabilities range from 106 oz-in (0.75Nm) for 1-stage models up to 1250 oz-in (8.80Nm) for versions with 4-stages or greater.

Sturdy and reliable construction incorporates sintered steel planet gears to promote high torque capacity and low audible noise; single-piece carrier plates with integral planet posts and sun gear that can be arranged as required to achieve the desired reduction ratio; and a 416 stainless steel output shaft protects against corrosion.

Options include square mounting flange, output ball bearings to accommodate high radial loads, and alternate shaft connections. Gearboxes can additionally be customized to satisfy application requirements.

Pittman Series 6000 Brush DC Motors

Pittman® brand “Series 6000” brush-commutated DC servo motors have been engineered to deliver more power than most other DC motors of similar size. These 22mm-diameter motors available in three standard lengths feature a skewed 5-slot armature design and bonded neodymium iron boron magnets to contribute optimized performance in a cost-effective package.

The longest model (1.901” in length) can provide up to 40% more continuous torque (2 oz-in) compared with shorter 22mm-diameter electric motor products. Other motors in this series are offered in shorter lengths of 1.256” and 1.556” with the capability to achieve continuous torque up to 0.80 oz-in and 1.3 oz-in, respectively.

Depending on model, these motors can generate maximum peak torques up to 10.2 oz-in and nominal no-load speeds up to 8720 rpm.

Key features include sintered bronze bearings, 2-pole stators, heavy-gauge steel housing, silicon steel laminations, and copper graphite brushes. Standard available options include ball bearings, EMI/RFI filter networks, and leadwire or terminal connection configurations.

Planetary gearboxes can be specified to meet demanding speed and torque requirements and optical encoders with several choices of resolution can be added for position, velocity, and direction feedback necessary in precision motion control applications. Custom motors can be developed to suit particular application requirements.
