Baum launches new generation of high torque servo motors

January 11, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Customers today are looking for direct drive solutions rather than conventional motor-gearbox combinations. Thus, Baum (www.baumcycles.com) came up with a new line of DST torque motors, introduced at the Hanover Messe 2010. The synchronous motors offer a wider range of available speeds and torques, as well as a higher power density.

Machines today require better energy efficiency and increased productivity and availability. They also expect improvement in cost effectiveness throughout its life cycle. But these expectations are not met in the case of low-efficiency standard motors or hydraulic systems and maintenance-intensive gearboxes.

Baum’s new generation of torque motors score with an extended range of speeds and a significantly improved power density. The torque range of the current product line has also been significantly increased. The motor series’ extension to include a 400-size motor means that rated torques up to 20,000Nm and maximum torques up to 32,000Nm are possible. This not only significantly increases productivity in existing applications but also opens up new application areas.

The new product line requires less installation space, thereby minimizing the contact surface for machines. Since torque motors have practically no residual torque, customers can improve the smooth running characteristics and the quality of its products to achieve a significant competitive advantage. Finally, its price-to-performance ratio increases the cost-effectiveness for customers.
