Now, there’s a new switch mount that lets users easily add position sensors to select jaw grippers.
PHD Inc., a manufacturer of industrial automation components, sells the switch-mounting kits for its Series 8400 and Series 190/191 grippers.
Here’s a PDF that details the sensor-mounting kit.
The mounting kits include a switch plate with slots for either one or two Series JC1STP switches to attach to the grippers’ bottom surfaces. Using two switches lets controls get data on up to four jaw positions throughout the jaw travel.
Because the accessory uses an existing switch-ready option, the user only needs to get the mounting plate and switches themselves.
Some background on the JC1STP Switches: These teachable switches (also from PHD) have simple program logic and feature two programmable outputs. They mount anywhere that’s convenient — in the middle of travel, for example.
First the installer moves the actuator to the first target position and sets the first output. Then the installer moves the actuator to the second target position and sets the second output. The switches retain settings even after power interruption.
Benefits of the new switch-mounting kits include:
• Jaw-position sensing that’s up to 50% less costly than alternatives; complete system can sense up to four jaw positions
• Easy installation and setup; clean and compact retrofit; available for all sizes of grippers
Mounting kits have slots for either one or two Series JC1STP switches to mount to the bottom surface of the gripper. For more information, visit the PHD blog or call (800) 624-8511.
