AllMotion now offers a new EZ4Axis17XR-ST highly compact controller driver measuring only 1.65 x 1.65 in. with six encoder inputs and 16 I/O connections. This 1/32nd step device operates from 8V to 30V and allows adjustment of the motor current up to 0.5A per motor. The compact board-level controller + driver was designed to allow for multi-axis stepper motor solutions in automation products. It’s a fully intelligent stepper motor controller and runs four fully independent stepper motors. Commands can be sent via RS-232, RS-485, USB, or CAN-based communications. The system designer can communicate from their application over a serial port or use the EZCommander Windows application available for download from AllMotion.
Component features include full 4-axis position control with power drivers, programmable acceleration ramps and speeds, four independent 0.5A PWM chopper drives, and 6 encoder inputs. The device offers coordinated or independent motion and adjustable microstepping capabilities.
Commands are intuitive and simple. For example, an A10000 command moves the stepper motor to absolute position 10000.
The EZ4Axis17XR-ST is also capable of stand-alone operation with no PC connection needed. It can be set to execute a preset string of commands upon power up with commands that include nested loops and execution halt pending a switch closure, useful in stand-alone applications. The controller + driver works with stepper motors that need 0.5A or less of current. The AllMotion Starter Kit enables first-time users to make a stepper motor move intelligently in less than half an hour.
