TUALATIN, OR – CUI Inc announced that it has launched a new version of amtencoder.com, a website dedicated to their proprietary AMT modular encoder series. The site now features detailed product pages, a resource area with technical documents, videos, frequently asked questions, a news section, and an inventor’s bio. CUI’s VP of Marketing Jeff Schnabel commented, “Users of the new amtencoder.com can expect to find a wealth of resources on this exciting technology and the products that utilize it.”

The AMT encoder has been designed with proprietary, capacitive, code-generating technology that represents a breakthrough in cost vs. resolution. Capacitive technology holds numerous advantages over the optical technology typically used in today’s modular encoders. The AMT’s design allows users to select from a range of resolutions via an on-board dip switch, creating flexibility for companies utilizing multiple encoders in their applications. Additionally, common problems associated with optical encoders, including fragility of the optical disk, LED burn-out, limited temperature range, and high current consumption are eliminated by capacitive technology.
The AMT is available immediately through Digi-Key starting at $29.95 for 1 piece. Contact CUI directly for OEM quantities.

TUALATIN, OR – CUI Inc announces the release of the MES3 series, the latest in their line of high performance micro optical encoders. Claimed to be the world’s smallest shaft-type optical encoder, the MES3 has a 5 mm body diameter and a 1.5 mm shaft diameter. The series is ideal for use in medical and robotics applications where size is critical. Smaller than a pencil eraser, it is able to provide very precise position and speed information in motion control systems, rivaling the performance of encoders more than three times its size. The MES3 is available with resolutions of 64 or 1024 PPR with an option of line driver or open collector output signals. Additional features include an operating temperature range of 0~60°C and max speed of 6,000 RPM.

CUI Inc announces that their AMT Series modular encoder is now being carried by MicroMo Electronics, Inc., the North American distributor for the Faulhaber Group. The AMT utilizes CUI’s proprietary capacitive technology, which holds numerous advantages over the optical technology typically used in today’s modular encoders.

The AMT has been paired with several MicroMo DC motors ranging from 22 to 32 mm diameters and is being sold as a value added package. Dodd Disler, MicroMo’s Vice President and COO observes, “CUI provides a competitive encoder solution using unique technology. This provides another great tool for MicroMo to integrate into our custom motion solutions and value added drive systems.” The combination of the AMT and the MicroMo DC motor is ideal for indication and control of shaft velocity and direction of rotation as well as for positioning. The AMT102 is configured with a side or radial exit connector and the AMT103 is configured with a top or axial connector. The supply voltage for the encoder and the DC motor, as well as the output signals, are interfaced with separate cables for connection.
Matt McKenzie CUI’s President states, “MicroMo is an industry leader in its space and CUI greatly values their partnership.”

CUI Inc has added three low cost, high performance optical encoders to their broad encoder product offering. The AME, BME, and LME are modular incremental encoders that offer a wide range of resolution and bore options, and can provide voltage or line driver output. Each encoder contains a LED source, an integrated circuit with detectors and circuitry, and an optical disc which rotates between the emitter and detector IC. These encoders can be quickly and easily mounted to a dc motor or used in other feedback required applications.

The AME series has 2 channels with available resolutions of 100, 200, 256, 360, 400, 500, 1000 and 1024 ppr and bore diameters of 3, 4, 5, 6, 6.35, and 8 mm. This series starts at under $30.00 for 1 piece. The BME series has 3 channels which includes an index pulse with available resolutions of 100, 200, 256, 360, 400, 500, 1000, and 1024 ppr (1000 and 1024 ppr only have 2 channels and no index), and bore diameters of 3, 4, 5, 6, 6.35, and 8 mm. An optional wide base with 1.81” BC is available as well. This series starts at under $41.00 for 1 piece. The LME series has 3 channels with available resolutions of 1000, 1024, 2000, and 2048 ppr, and bore diameters of 6, 6.35, 8, 10, 14, 19, and 20 mm. Pricing for 1 piece starts at under $43.00 for 1000 or 1024 ppr or under $50.00 for 2000 or 2048 ppr. All orders come with a complementary centering tool.
